Visual Art

SEE

I paint things I don't want to lose.

Photographs pile up by the thousands and disappear into digital dust. Painting makes me stop, look again, and turn some of them back into objects.

PROCESS / 01

The photograph
is only the beginning.

I often begin with a photograph and use a camera lucida to align the image with the canvas.

The technology helps establish structure. After that, things become less controlled: color, distortion, brushwork, memory, and whatever survives the translation from photograph to paint.

MAKE SOMETHING

I don't think art requires permission.
It requires beginning.
